Australia eSIM

Land in Australia already connected

It's a very long flight to land without data. Order before you go, scan the QR code at home, and your phone finds an Australian network by itself when you touch down at Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

Sorted before a 24-hour flight

Australia is one of the destinations where arriving without a connection hurts most — long transfers, big distances and a time zone that makes sorting it out from the airport a miserable job. Installing an eSIM at home before you leave takes a minute and means you land already online.

Pick the length of your trip

Every plan below covers Australia. Choose the number of days you're away — the price is fixed, you pay once, and nothing renews afterwards.

Live pricing from our local network carriers, shown in US dollars. Every plan is data only.

Where to go

Roughly the size of Europe, with 27 million people

Almost all of them on the coast. The distances between them are the thing British visitors consistently underestimate.

New South Wales

Sydney & the Blue Mountains

The harbour, Bondi to Coogee on foot, and eucalyptus escarpments ninety minutes west. Bushfire and trail closure information matters and lives online.

Victoria

Melbourne & the Great Ocean Road

Laneway coffee, and one of the world's best coastal drives running west to the Twelve Apostles.

Queensland

The Reef & the tropics

Cairns, the Whitsundays and the Daintree. Reef trips are weather-dependent and cancel at short notice, usually by text or app.

Northern Territory

Uluru & Kakadu

The Red Centre and the wetlands up north. Distances are enormous and coverage between towns is effectively nil — download everything.

Western Australia

Perth & the coast north

Rottnest Island's quokkas, then Ningaloo Reef and the Kimberley far beyond. The remotest driving in the country.

Tasmania

The island state

Cradle Mountain, MONA in Hobart and a walking culture to rival New Zealand's. Compact by Australian standards.

On the ground

What you'll actually use it for

Getting around

Distances between towns are vast and the stretches between them have no signal at all. Download the route and the fuel stops before you leave.

Weather and closures

Bushfire warnings, flood closures and cyclone alerts are all issued online and change fast. Worth being able to check from the road.

Staying in touch

WhatsApp, FaceTime and Signal all run over data, so calls home cost nothing beyond the plan you've already paid for.

Backing up photos

Let a fortnight of pictures sync as you travel rather than praying your phone survives the trip home. This is the one that eats data, so save it for the evening.

When plans go wrong

A cancelled train, a closed road or a hotel that can't find your booking. All of it is easier to fix with a working connection than without one.

How it works

Set it up before you leave home

The whole thing takes about as long as printing a boarding pass, and it's far easier done on your own Wi-Fi than in an airport queue.

1

Choose your dates

Pick the plan that matches how long you're in Australia.

2

Scan the QR code

It arrives by email as soon as you pay. Open your phone's mobile settings, add an eSIM, scan — done in under a minute, over Wi-Fi at home.

3

Switch it on in Australia

Your plan starts when the eSIM first finds a network in Australia, not when you bought it. Turn roaming off on your UK line and you're set.

FAQs

Before you book

Which networks does an Australia eSIM use?
The plan roams onto local Australian carriers. Our network partner doesn't publish the specific operator list for this bundle, so we're not going to name one — what we can say is that it's a roaming plan on local networks, not a satellite or Wi-Fi service.
What does “unlimited” actually mean?
You get 1GB of full-speed data every day. After that the connection carries on at a reduced 384kbps for the rest of that day, then resets the next morning. There's no hard cut-off and no overage charge, so you can't run up a bill.
Will it work in the Outback?
In the towns and along the main highways, yes. Between them, frequently not — and that's true of every Australian network including local SIMs. Large parts of the interior have no mobile coverage of any kind. Download maps, and take a satellite messenger if you're going genuinely remote.
Isn't roaming with my UK network easier?
Easier, sometimes. Cheaper, almost never. Australia sits outside most UK networks' inclusive roaming zones, so you're usually looking at a daily charge or per-megabyte rates that add up fast. Check your provider's rate for Australia before you travel and compare it with a fixed one-off price.
Can I keep my UK number?
Yes. The eSIM runs alongside your existing SIM, so calls and texts still arrive on your UK number while your data goes over the local networks. Turn data roaming off on your UK line so nothing lands on your normal bill.
How much data do I need for a week?
For maps, messaging, translation and social media, most travellers use somewhere between 500MB and 1GB a day. These plans give you 1GB a day at full speed, which comfortably covers normal sightseeing. Streaming video or tethering a laptop will get through it faster.
Should I install it before I fly?
Yes, and it's worth being deliberate about it. Install over your own Wi-Fi at home. After 24 hours of flying, the last thing you want is to be troubleshooting a QR code in an arrivals hall on the far side of the world.
Do I get a Australian phone number?
No, these are data-only plans. That covers maps, email, messaging and calls through WhatsApp, FaceTime or Signal. If you need a number that takes ordinary calls and texts, keep your UK SIM active alongside the eSIM.
Will my phone take an eSIM?
Most handsets released since 2018 will, including iPhone XR/XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer — as long as it isn't network locked. Look for “Add eSIM” or “Add data plan” in your mobile settings to check.

Safe travels
