Spain eSIM

Spain, connected on arrival

Order before you fly and the QR code is waiting in your inbox. Scan it at home, land at Barajas, El Prat, Málaga or Palma, and your phone finds a Spanish network by itself — no kiosk queue, no roaming bill waiting for you back home.

One eSIM, the whole trip

Spain sits inside a 33-country European bundle, so the eSIM you buy for Barcelona carries on working over the border into Portugal or France, and on a city break to Rome later in the year. The UK is on the list too — install it at home, confirm it works, and it picks up again the moment you land back.

Pick the length of your trip

Every plan below covers Spain. Choose the number of days you're away — the price is fixed, you pay once, and nothing renews afterwards.

Live pricing from our local network carriers, shown in US dollars. Every plan is data only.

Where to go

Seventeen regions, one eSIM

Green Atlantic coast in the north, desert in the south east, and volcanic islands off the coast of Africa. Spain covers far more ground than the costas suggest.

Comunidad de Madrid

Madrid

The Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen sit within ten minutes of each other, all free for the last couple of hours daily — which is when the queue forms. Dinner rarely starts before nine.

Catalonia

Barcelona & the Costa Brava

The Sagrada Família and Park Güell are strictly timed entry and sell out days ahead in summer. North of the city the coast turns to coves and cliff paths around Cadaqués and Begur.

Andalucía

Seville, Granada & Córdoba

The Alhambra caps daily numbers and routinely sells out weeks in advance, with a separate timed slot for the Nasrid Palaces. Seville and Córdoba are best walked early, before the afternoon heat.

Balearic Islands

Mallorca, Menorca & Ibiza

Serra de Tramuntana hairpins, Menorcan calas reached on foot, and an Ibiza that is far quieter than the reputation once you head north. Inter-island ferries book up fast in August.

Canary Islands

Tenerife, Lanzarote & La Palma

Winter sun at 20°C, Teide rising above the cloud line, and volcanic landscapes that look like nowhere else in Europe. The Teide cable car and summit permits are booked online in advance.

The north

Basque Country & Galicia

Pintxos bars in San Sebastián, the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and the Camino running west to Santiago. Greener, wetter and cooler than the south — pack accordingly.

On the ground

What you'll actually use it for

Tickets that sell out

The Alhambra and the Sagrada Família are the classic mistakes — both cap numbers and both go weeks ahead in season. Book the moment you fix your dates, from wherever you are.

Trains and ferries

Renfe's AVE gets you Madrid to Seville in under three hours and is cheapest booked early. Ferries to the Balearics and between the Canaries run to timetables that shift by season.

Working around the heat

Inland Andalucía passes 40°C in high summer and plenty of smaller places still shut through the afternoon. Checking the forecast and opening hours reshapes the day.

Ordering properly

Camera translation turns a chalked menú del día into something you can choose from, and helps in Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia where the menu may not be in Spanish either.

Backing up photos

Let the week sync as you go rather than trusting one phone to survive the beach and the trip home. Save it for the evening — this is the one that gets through data.

When plans go wrong

A delayed ferry, a villa down an unnamed track, a hire car with a question about the excess. All easier to sort with a working connection than without one.

How it works

Set it up before you leave home

The whole thing takes about as long as printing a boarding pass, and it's far easier done on your own Wi-Fi than in an airport queue.

1

Choose your dates

Pick the plan that matches how long you're in Spain. If you're crossing into Portugal or France, the same eSIM already covers you.

2

Scan the QR code

It arrives by email as soon as you pay. Open your phone's mobile settings, add an eSIM, scan — done in under a minute, over Wi-Fi at home.

3

Switch it on in Spain

Your plan starts when the eSIM first finds a Spanish network, not when you bought it. Turn roaming off on your UK line and you're set.

FAQs

Before you book

Which networks does a Spain eSIM use?
Our Spain plans roam onto Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo — established Spanish networks. You get the same coverage a local customer would, across the cities, the costas and most of the interior.
Does it work in the Canaries and the Balearics?
Yes. The Canary Islands, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera are all part of Spain and use the same Spanish mobile networks, so the plan works there exactly as it does on the mainland.
Does it work anywhere else?
Yes. The plan covering Spain is a 33-country European bundle, so the same eSIM keeps working in Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and more. The United Kingdom is included, which means you can install and test it before you leave, and stay connected when you land back.
What does “unlimited” actually mean?
You get 1GB of full-speed data every day. After that the connection carries on at a reduced 512kbps for the rest of that day, then resets the next morning. There's no hard cut-off and no overage charge, so you can't run up a bill.
Do I need this if my UK plan includes EU roaming?
It depends on your contract. Several UK networks reintroduced roaming fees or daily charges for Europe after Brexit, and some cap your data or speeds abroad. Check what your provider charges for Spain and compare it against a fixed one-off price. If your plan already includes generous EU roaming, you may not need one — we'd rather tell you that than sell you something you don't need.
Can I keep my UK number?
Yes. The eSIM runs alongside your existing SIM, so calls and texts still arrive on your UK number while your data goes over the Spanish networks. Turn data roaming off on your UK line so nothing lands on your normal bill.
How much data do I need for a week?
For maps, messaging, translation and social media, most travellers use somewhere between 500MB and 1GB a day. These plans give you 1GB a day at full speed, which comfortably covers normal sightseeing and beach use. Streaming video or tethering a laptop will get through it faster.
Do I get a Spanish phone number?
No, these are data-only plans. That covers maps, email, messaging and calls through WhatsApp, FaceTime or Signal. If you need a number that takes ordinary calls and texts, keep your UK SIM active alongside the eSIM.
Will my phone take an eSIM?
Most handsets released since 2018 will, including iPhone XR/XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer — as long as it isn't network locked. Look for “Add eSIM” or “Add data plan” in your mobile settings to check.
